The Windows 95, 98 and NT version of has been updated to include a distinctive zero, the euro currency symbol (for Windows 98 and NT), improved hints and outlines, and is encoded as a fixed pitch font.

Webdings was designed in 1997 as a collaborative work between Microsoft's Vincent Connare and top Monotype designers Sue Lightfoot, Ian Patterson and Geraldine Wade. The images are intended for web designers who wish to include live fonts as a fast way of rendering graphics.
