Overview:This document contains hardware requirements and recommendations for minimum, midpoint, and high end, client/server installations. The recommendations are based on experience with many different installations and should be used as a reference in determining hardware needs for each individual configuration. Users may need to increase these recommendations due to environmental factors to achieve individual performance expectations. Outline:
A) Workstation Requirements:
* Clients with heavy processing use Pentium III 450 MHZ or higher and 256 MB RAM or higher
B) Minimum Server Requirements:
Option B1 : Microsoft SQL Server Recommendations:
Option B2 : Pervasive.SQL 2000, or Ctree Server Requirements:
C)
Midpoint
Server Recommendations:

Requirements |
Notes |
Operating System |
Windows NT 4.0 SP 6a, Windows 2000 Server SP2 or greater Windows 2000 Advanced Server SP2 or greater
|
|
Processors |
Dual Xeon 500 mhz (or equivalent) |
Make sure you can upgrade to quad processors |
Disk Configuration |
Required: RAID 1 for OS and APPS (2 disk) RAID 1 for database log files (2 disk) RAID 5 for data files (4 disk minimum)* Recommended: -Separate disks for DB backups and transaction log dumps |
The more disks you have available the better SQL Server will perform.
RAID 5 should have at least 4 disks or more. Use of Ultra SCSI 3 recommended or Fiber Controller |
RAM |
1G or more |
Expandable to 4G** |
CD-ROM |
Yes |
Required
|
Network Card |
Dual 100-bit, 10/100 MB Ethernet, OR Fiber PCI NIC |
Ensure switch is large enough to handle Traffic load |
* To attain 2000 transactions a day, you may need to increase the number of disks in your RAID 5 disk volume.
** Should enable the /3GB switch in your boot.ini if Windows Advanced Server and Enterprise Edition of SQL are installed. See Q Article Q274750for more information.
*** It is highly recommended that all workstations have a NT based Operating System on them. (NT4.0, 2000, XP).
Pervasive.SQL 2000 SP 3 or 4 or c-tree database

Use these guidelines if you:
Use Financials Series modules.
Use Distribution Series modules.
Have between 25 and 75 concurrent users.
Use Terminal Server/Metaframe.
Use Report Writer or Crystal Reports and FRx Reports heavily.
Perform Some OLAP (online analytical processing), cube generation (to different machine).
Have no more than 5000 transactions total per day - Originating in Sales (SOP and/or RM), Payables or General Ledger.
Heavy use of some type of import routine.
Dedicated SQL/Pervasive Server only.
SQL Server 2000 SP2 or greater
